Morgan’s cancer was discovered in October 2021 following 5 months back and fore from the GP. He was diagnosed with Adrenocortical Carcinoma (ACC), a rare cancer affecting 1-in-million people. Consequently, he was also diagnosed with Li-Fraumeni syndrome, a genetic mutation in the TP53 gene, which meant that the body's ability to fight cancer is impacted. The whole family was tested and Morgan's little sister and father were also found to have the gene, triggering a lifetime of surveillance and testing. Morgan fought cancer for two years, 9 rounds of chemo, 3 rounds of immunotherapy, 6 surgeries and months of oral chemotherapy. Morgan passed away on June 28th 2023 just 10 days before his 4th birthday at Tŷ Hafan Children's Hospice. We desperately need better and more research into children's cancer, not only to prevent more families from stories like ours, but for the future of children like Morgan's little sister who has a high likelihood of a cancer diagnosis. Once cancer touches your life, it never leaves you- we need to work towards brighter futures for all children with cancer. Earlier diagnosis, kinder treatments and better outcomes.
